Pandrata Circle association was created in Paris, in July 2006, with the aims to preserve and reveal the cultural founds of the Study Circle library of Gokarna, Karnataka state, South India.
In collaboration with the local association Study Circle, Pandrata Circle is creating an institution providing access to culture, education, formation and research for all.
Construction of a new library for the Study Circle's collections
The new building will make possible:
The public access to the Study Circle's heritage (manuscripts, magazines, thesis... about 70 000 books);
The protection and valuation of precious documents such as the old manuscripts;
The creation of alphabetization program (kannada) for non-scholarized children, as well as language classes (french, kannada, english, hindi);
The development of educative and cultural programs;
The creation of exchange projects between India and France;
Last but not least, the valuation of reading, writing and oral pratices, as well as of knowledge about asiatic and european cultures.
Creation of the Pandrata Cultural Centre
Pandrata Circle also projects to open in Gokarna a centre for cultural and artistic exchanges between France and India.
The association already sets up theatre workshops, theatrical shows...
In the future, the creation of the Pandrata Centre will enable:
The densification of pluridisciplinary workshops (biomecanic, kathakali, bharata natyam, yoga) and the creation of theatrical performances in a favourable environment (accomodation for students and teachers, large room for practice, amphitheatre, resting and eating places etc.);
The setting up of cultural events (expositions, shows, etc.) with the collaboration of local and international partners;
The accomodation of foreign artistic companies;
